Dr. Ramkumar Vishwanathan

Dr. Ramkumar Vishwanathan is a highly experienced Consultant Physician in Chennai specialising in General Medicine, Diabetes and Preventive Cardiology. He has almost 40 years of experience in medical practice. He has been practising at his Clinic, S S Centre for Preventive Cardiology and Diabetes, since 2008. Before that he worked as an Honorary Physician at Madras Medical College and Government General Hospital and, in 2006, was acknowledged and recognised by the Institute as a "Great Teacher to be Emulated".

Dr. Vishwanathan was instrumental in starting the Intensive Medical Care Unit at the Public Health Centre in West Mambalamin in 1978 with one bed, and then nurturing it into a 12-bed IMCU by the late 1990s.

Dr. Vishwanathan did his MBBS and then his MD from Poona University and won a Gold Medal in the University Examinations. He further did the Indian Diploma in Critical Care Medicine (IDCCM). Dr. Vishwanathan also received a Vocational Excellence Award from Rotary Club in 2005.
